I experienced all of that usual stuff about being one of the only non-white kids growing up in a small, fairly insular, community when I was a kid in 1970’s & 80’s N.E East England. Cliched it may be, but it doesn’t make it any less real. I carry the fear, and dislike, of parochial conservative communities into my adult life. However, it’s pushed me on to a more exciting and vibrant life in which I have met amazing, colourful and unconventional people whilst living in London, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and now Bangkok.
The painting “a coloured” is a celebration of the beauty of colours, of vibrancy, of difference, of diversity. I love being ‘a coloured’ !
