Veil of Ignorance

I try to be positive about the UK Election, I try to hope that maybe people can see beyond their own immediate self interest, I try to believe that maybe people can be compassionate and empathetic towards others less fortunate. Then I hear, watch and read the electorate.

The philosopher John Rawls sets us the challenge of trying to decide the rules of society from behind a Veil of Ignorance. Behind the veil we would not know anything about our position in society, we would be ignorant of our sex, gender, ethnicity, socio-economic class etc. In this situation we would maybe start to act more ethically. We need a veil of ignorance.
