I’m fascinated by terraced rice fields, not only do they have beautiful symmetry, but they’re also a testament to human ingenuity and determination. Any farming is difficult, but rice farming is particularly difficult, I don’t think we often stop to appreciate the toil that people go through to grow our food. Anyway, I wanted to paint rice terraces, I did a few quick sketches whilst I was up in Pai, and then put together this composition. I was particularly trying to contrast colours, and trying to introduce more purples into my picture. I can see where I made mistakes in this picture, but I can also see which elements work. Every picture is added learning.
